MCC Students Help Replenish Area Food Banks Depleted by Hurricane Irene

Middlesex County College students worked on helping local food pantries that were sorely tested by the demand put on them by the recent hurricane.

The Middlesex County College Alumni Association and Democracy House, the college’s Service Learning program, combined to collect food for M.C.F.O.O.D.S.(Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services) during the Student Activities Fair in September.

The fair brings several thousand students to the center of campus where they can talk with representatives of college clubs about becoming new members. The Alumni Association and Democracy House were responding to the needs of M.C.F.O.O.D.S., which had its food supplies diminished because of Hurricane Irene.

M.C.F.O.O.D.S. collects and distributes nonperishable items to 100 local food pantries, soup kitchens, residential facilities, shelters, social service agencies, among others.
