Men Charged With Manslaughter In Carteret Parking Space Dispute

The fight broke out at 8:30 p.m. July 28 on Hayward Street in Carteret, originally over a parking space, said the county prosecutor.

CARTERET, NJ — A man from Carteret and another from Brooklyn have been arrested and charged with killing another man in an argument that began over a parking space, said the Middlesex County Prosecutor.

The fight occurred at 8:30 p.m. July 28 on Hayward Street in Carteret, said police. All three of the men previously knew each other, said Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.

Carteret Police were called to the area for a report of a fight, and engaged in a conversation with the men. During the conversation with police, Lisandro Villalba, 45, of Carteret appeared to have a medical episode and lost consciousness at the scene, said New Jersey Attorney General Andrew Bruck, whose office also investigated this incident.

The officers called an ambulance and Villalba was taken to Robert Wood Johnson hospital in Rahway. He was pronounced dead there at approximately 12:00 a.m.

According to the county prosecutor, Bilal Kadi, 34, of Carteret and Jorge Cristohadlow, 33, of Brooklyn repeatedly struck Villalba after all three got into a dispute over a parking space. An autopsy conducted by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed Villalba died of blunt force trauma.

Cristohadlow was taken into custody Wednesday by Woodbridge Police and charged with second-degree manslaughter. Police say when they apprehended him, he had credit cards belonging to others.

Kadi and Cristohadlow are presently lodged at the Middlesex County Jail in North Brunswick.

In addition to the Middlesex County Prosecutor, the Attorney General's office investigated this incident because a person died in the custody of police officers.

As required by law, anytime someone in New Jersey dies during an encounter with police, the New Jersey Attorney General must investigate to determine if any laws were broken and if the police acted properly in their official capacity.
