Middlesex/Monmouth Fire Academy Teacher Charged With Sex Assault

Hugo Fleites, a former Perth Amboy firefighter who now teaches at the county fire academy, was charged with sexually assaulting a minor.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A part-time instructor for the Middlesex and Monmouth County Fire Academies and former Perth Amboy firefighter was arrested last Friday, Oct. 12 and charged with the sexual assault of a minor.

Hugo Fleites, 57, of Perth Amboy was arrested Friday and charged with one count of sexual assault in the second degree arising from incidents that occurred between 1998 and 2001, with a minor between the age of 13-16 years of age, Middlesex County prosecutor Andrew Carey said. The assaults allegedly took place in his home in Perth Amboy while he was employed as a professional firefighter with the city of Perth Amboy.

Fleites, who is currently employed as a part-time instructor at both the Middlesex and Monmouth County Fire Academies, was held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick pending an initial court appearance.

Fleites was charged during an investigation by Detective Riscardo Rosado of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Deon McCall of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
