More than $28,000 Given in Woodbridge's 'Have a Heart' Food Drive

The third-grade class at Robert Mascenik School #26 in Iselin gave 300 pounds of food.

Woodbridge, NJ - Are you a Woodbridge resident or part of a business that donated to Mayor John McCormac’s “Have-A-Heart” food drive?

The food drive collected more than 26,500 pounds of non-perishable food and more than $28,000 in cash donations, Mayor McCormac announced Thursday. He made the announcement at Robert Mascenik School #26 in Iselin. The third-grade class there donated 300 pounds of food. School #26 has participated in the Have-A-Heart food drive every year since it began in 1995.

More than 100 Woodbridge township corporations, businesses, students and residents contributed to the 2016 “Have-A-Heart” food drive. Here are some of the biggest donors:

· Sansone Foundation: $5,000.00

· Wegmans of Woodbridge ~ 1,000 lbs. and $214.00

· Woodbridge ShopRite ~ 1,000 lbs.

· Goya Foods Corporation: 1,844 lbs.

· Northfield Bank ~ $2,140.00

· BCB Bank - Woodbridge Branch: $2,000.00 and 250 lbs.

· Xerox Corporation: $1,000.00

· American Legion Post #248: $1,000.00

· Sandwich Station/Carval: 1,000 lbs.

· Bishop George Ahr High School: 1,500 lbs.

· Woodbridge Community Center: 800 lbs.

The food and money will go to local food pantries.
