An 11-year-old New Jersey boy was killed by a car this weekend while skateboarding in a parking lot, his family says.
Askari Mylikye Moore, 11, was skateboarding Friday night with two of his friends in a parking lot of the Durham Woods apartment complex in Edison when he was struck by the vehicle, according to the family.
Edison police said Sunday the matter was under investigation, and Shakera Moore, the boy's mother, confirmed the details to nj.com and on the family's GoFundMe page.

Shakera Moore said she was at work on Friday when police called her and told her she needed to go immediately to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to nj.com. There, she arrived at the hospital and was met by a chaplain and right then knew that her son had died.
A memorial was held in the parking lot of the complex Sunday where the family said Askari, a fifth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, had been fatally struck. The family is now making funeral arrangements and has started a GoFundMe site to help raise funds.
