New Restaurant Opens In Metuchen, Pearl Street Cafe

METUCHEN, NJ — Looking to try a new local restaurant? Pearl Street Cafe opened last Tuesday, May 9 in downtown Metuchen. It's owned by longtime Metuchen resident Dan Slobodien, who used to own Dan's on Main, which is now closed.

“This is a very exciting period in Metuchen and I’m glad to be back as a business owner in downtown," Slobodien said. "The energy and support from fellow business owners and residents has been wonderful and we’re looking forward to sharing our scratch-made cuisine with everyone who visits — young, old and everyone in between.”

Located at 10 Pearl Street, Pearl Street Cafe's menu bills itself as "a homemade take on the classics." The restaurant brines, cures and smokes their own pastrami, cures their own house-made bacon (a favorite of Slobodien’s wife, Sandy, is his candied bacon), grinds their own hamburger meat and makes their own ketchup.

Chef/owner Dan Slobodien attended culinary school at Philadelphia Restaurant School.
For dessert, try Danny's Heavenlies. Soft and warm and filled with melted chocolate.

“We loved Dan’s food when he was on Main Street and can’t wait to dig into his new menu at Pearl Street Café!" said Metuchen Councilman Jay Muldoon. "It’s wonderful to have such a great selection of eateries downtown and we’re excited about Dan coming back home to his roots.”

Pearl Street Cafe serves lunch daily from 11:30 to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5-8 p.m. They also do takeout, and accept reservations.
