No New Jersey Sears or Kmarts to be Closed - So Far

Sears released a list of underperforming stores to be closed. No NJ stores are on the list - but there are more announcements to come.

Sears released a list of 79 stores that were to be closed as part of the in the wake of disappointing year end sales.

No New Jersey Kmarts or Sears stores were on the list of 79 stores. However, the company had announced on December 27 that the planned closings would number from 100 to 120 stores.

There will be more shuttered stores to come, they said.

Sears Holding Company, the company will oversees the Sears and KMart stores, said in the list of 79 store closings that they couldn't say exactly how many employees would be affected by the store closings until the list was finalized.

They estimated that "a typical store that is being closed employs between 40 and 80 associates." That means that this latest round of store closings will cost between 3,160 and 6,320 employees their jobs.
