Cop Critically Injured During Funeral Procession In Woodbridge

Breaking: A police captain from Orange was critically injured Tuesday while leading a funeral procession in Woodbridge Township.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A New Jersey police captain was critically injured Tuesday while leading a funeral procession in Woodbridge Township, Woodbridge police confirmed to Patch.

"A motorcycle officer from another jurisdiction was involved in a crash yesterday in our town," said Chief Scott Kuzma of the Woodbridge police department.

That officer was identified as William Boggier, a captain for the city of Orange police department, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor's office.

The crash occurred near Minna Avenue and Avenel Street in the Avenel section of Woodbridge, and Boggier was leading the funeral procession when he was hit, said a spokeswoman for the county prosecutor. He was on his motorcycle when he was hit by a car.

Who the funeral was for is unknown at this time.

Boggier was taken to University Hospital in Newark and his injuries are considered life threatening, according to the NJ.com report. He remains in the intensive care unit.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is handling the investigation and will release more details when they can, Woodbridge police said.
