Perth Amboy Man Charged With Hit And Run
The victim, 83, died Dec. 26 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Update: The 83-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead on December 26 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was taken after he was struck on December 16. It appeared he died of injuries sustained when he was hit by a 1998 Honda Civic that was being driven by Edwin Viera, 53, of Perth Amboy, the Middlesex County prosecutor said.
PERTH AMBOY, NY - The Perth Amboy man wanted for hitting a pedestrian and fleeing with his car has been located and arrested, police said Friday. Edwin Viera, 53, of Perth Amboy (pictured) was charged with leaving the scene of the accident and obstruction after hitting the victim, an 83-year-old city resident who remains hospitalized.
Bail has been set at $10,000.

During the investigation it was determined that Viera was parked on Lawrie Street last Friday, December 16 and backed his 1998 Honda Civic into the Penn Street intersection and struck the victim, who was crossing Penn Street at 9:45 p.m.
Viera drove from the scene, but surrendered to police on Thursday.

The victim is being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he is listed in critical condition.
