Prison for Edison Gas Station Owner Who Failed to Report $41 Million in Sales

EDISON, NJ - A man who lives in Edison but owns four gas stations Illinois was sentenced to more than a year in prison for failing to report millions of dollars in gasoline sales.

Adnan Rashid, 35, of Edison, deliberately concealed $41 million in sales on his taxes from the four gas stations in Illinois, according to a report on NJ.com.

He owns two Marathon gas stations in the Peoria, Illinois area, and has part ownership of the other two. He was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison and will also have to pay $1.5 million in back taxes to the IRS and to the state of Illinois, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Central Illinois said Tuesday.

Rashid admitted he falsified sales receipts before giving them to his accountant and pleaded guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion in December. He will have to turn himself in May 30 to begin his prison sentence.
