Rabid Skunk Found In Plainsboro Monday

A Plainsboro resident said his dogs attacked a skunk in his backyard Monday, and that skunk turned out to have rabies.

PLAINSBORO, NJ — A Plainsboro resident said his dogs attacked a skunk in his backyard Monday, and that skunk turned out to have rabies, according to the Middlesex County Office of Health Services.

This happened in the vicinity of Mershon Lane and Gulick Lane.

This past Monday, Sept. 13, the Plainsboro resident said they let their two pet dogs into the yard, and the dogs attacked the skunk.

The skunk was picked up by the Animal Control Officer and was then taken to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. Results came back Tuesday that the skunk tested positive for rabies.

There was no human exposure. The resident has scheduled their two pet dogs for follow-up treatment.

This is the fourth rabid animal reported within Middlesex County in 2021 and the second rabid animal in Plainsboro so far this year.
