Linden, NJ - After his second pet cat was found dead over the weekend, a man in Linden is making a disturbing claim: He thinks someone is soaking cat food in antifreeze and then feeding it to stray cats in the neighborhood, with the intent of killing them.
The 28-year-old Linden man called police on Sunday, to report that he found his pet cat, "Teddy," dead across the street from his house. The animal appeared to be intact and there were no signs of trauma, Linden police said. The owner told officers that he believed that someone is soaking cat food in antifreeze and feeding stray cats to kill them. He said Teddy was his second pet cat to die in this manner, and his first cat was apparently poisoned in a similar fashion, according to Captain James Sarnicki of the Linden Police Department.
Capt. Sarnicki said he would like to warn residents that Animal Cruelty is a disorderly persons offense and a conviction can result in fines ranging from $250 to $1,000 and up to 6 months in jail.
