Thiftway Cardsmart holds grand opening

Mayor cuts ribbon, officially welcoming store to Woodbridge

The Thriftway Cardsmart of Woodbridge is officially open for business.

The store, which had been open for a few weeks, held its official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Friday afternoon.  Mayor John McCormac cut the ribbon, welcoming the store to Woodbridge.

The store, located at the St. Georges Crossing plaza (or "the store you'll probably know as the one next to Shannon Rose," as McCormac jokingly noted), sells greeting cards at 50% off every day, as well as occasion and seasonal gifts, such as birthday, wedding, and Easter trinkets.  Thriftway Cardsmart also offers a senior citizen's discount of an additional 10% off on Tuesdays and Sundays.

The store will be open Mondays-Saturdays from 10 AM to 8 PM and Sundays from 10 AM t0 6 PM, 365 days a year.  As McCormac and Dorf discussed the store's policy of being open every day for last-minute or forgetful shoppers, several customers nodded in agreement.  "That's a really good idea," said one woman watching the ceremony.

The Thriftway Cardsmart's opening is the second of a line of new businesses coming into Woodbridge.  Chain restaurant Houlihan's held its grand opening last week, and construction has finally begun on the oft-delayed Olive Garden and Bahama Breeze restaurants at the Woodbridge Center Mall.
