WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Did you know Woodbridge has plans to greatly expand the town marina in Sewaren and add a tiki bar there?

In late December, Woodbridge received a $1.5 million grant from the state to dredge the Sewaren marina’s main waterway, town spokesman John Hagerty confirmed this week.

But the dredging is just one part of a larger redevelopment project Woodbridge is about to embark on to rehabilitate the Sewaren waterfront, which includes the repair/replacement of approximately 70 boat slips, the repair of aging marina docks and even the construction of a tiki bar.

Currently, the Sewaren marina has 28 boat slips. Woodbridge Township wants to expand that to 70 boat slips.

Carteret opened this 185-slip municipal marina on its waterfront in 2019, located at Carteret's Waterfront Park on Middlesex Avenue.

Woodbridge also plans to build a landscaped picnic grove at the marina, and add a parking area for food truck vendors. The Township also plans to upgrade and expand the existing dog park off Cliff Road.

All of this work will begin sometime in 2023.

“Our Township has been working on the Sewaren marina project for over two years. This grant is a significant benefit for Woodbridge,” said Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac.

“We greatly appreciate this $1.5 million grant from Gov. Phil Murphy’s 2022-23 state budget. It came to us thanks to advocacy from our 19th District legislative delegates: Sen. Joe Vitale, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez,” said McCormac.
