Van Cuts Utility Pole In Half On Rt. 35 In Colonia

A cargo van drove into a utility pole on Rt. 35 Wednesday night, accidentally sawing it in half. A Patch reader provided these pics.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A cargo van drove into a utility pole off Rt. 35 in Colonia Wednesday night, accidentally sawing the pole in half.

A Patch reader driving by provided these photos from the scene. The accident happened sometime before 8 p.m. on Rt. 35 near Long Hill Road in Colonia (near the Cheers liquor store), Woodbridge police said. The cargo van veered off the road, striking a utility pole and causing it to split in half. The van also damaged the front lawn and exit sign at the Bank of Woodbridge.

No injuries were reported and no summonses were issued. The driver of the cargo van is a 52-year-old man from Colonia. PSE&G responded for repairs.
