WATCH: Edison House Fire Caused by Unattended Candle
There were reports that a firefighter fell through the attic floor while fighting the blaze, but that has not been confirmed.

EDISON, NJ - In addition to the two-alarm blaze that left 42 people homeless in New Brunswick Thursday night, a house fire broke out in Edison Thursday afternoon as well. Edison Township firefighters battled freezing temperatures while bringing a Candy Court house fire under control Thursday afternoon. Residents of 40 Candy Court, who were home when the 2:30 p.m. fire began in a second-floor bathroom, escaped unharmed.
With help from firefighters, they also rescued five family dogs from inside the house, Fire Chief Brian Latham said. A lit candle, left unattended in the bathroom, apparently caused the fire. There were reports that a firefighter fell through the attic floor while fighting the blaze, and was not seriously injured, but those have not been confirmed. See a video of the Candy Court fire below, posted by the Unofficial Edison Fire Dept. Facebook page.
There were no smoke detectors in the house, causing a delay in the time it took for the occupants to notice and report the fire, Latham explained. Fire damage to the home’s interior has left it uninhabitable, the chief said.
