Woman Attacked While Jogging In South Plainfield, Prosecutor Says

Police told residents in the area that the woman was grabbed from behind while she was running along Franklin Avenue. Her attacker fled.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A woman jogging Monday evening in South Plainfield was grabbed from behind by a man, and the man who attacked her is still at large, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor's office.

It happened in the area of Franklin Avenue and Thornton Court at approximately 7:20 p.m. this past Monday September 23, say South Plainfield police.

Police told residents in the area that the woman was grabbed from behind while she ran along Franklin Ave. at the corner of Thornton Court, reported ABC News. Residents who live there say she screamed and fought him off, and then called 911. The woman was described as visibly shaken after the incident, according to the report.

The woman told police she was attacked by a light-skinned black man, approximately 25 years old, clean shaven, wearing a dark dress shirt, dark dress pants and white ear buds in his ears. The suspect ranges from 5-feet-5-inches to 5-feet-7-inches in height and weighs approximately 160 pounds with an athletic build.

He was last seen running westbound on Franklin Avenue.

If anyone lives or has a business in that area, police are asking them to check their security camera footage during this time period, since portions of the incident may have been captured on film.

Acting Prosecutor Kuberiet and Police Chief Parker are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying and locating this man. They are asking anyone with information to contact the South Plainfield Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (908) 226-7660 or (908) 226-7662, or Detective Ryan Tighe of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3287.

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County, Inc., a non-profit organization that partners with law enforcement to enable the public to anonymously submit crime information and will pay a cash reward should it lead to an arrest.

Those who provide information will be given a unique numerical code that that allows them to communicate with the program and collect a reward should their information lead to an arrest. All reward amounts are approved and set by Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County Inc.
