WOODBRIDGE, NJ — All outdoor extracurricular activities such as sports games and practices at Woodbridge public schools have been canceled Wednesday, due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires that has severely affected New York City/New Jersey air quality.

Elsewhere in New Jersey, both the East Brunswick and Montclair school districts made the decision to move gym and recess indoors Wednesday. Wayne schools are even giving students an early dismissal due to how bad the air quality is. Rutgers professors are advising people wear "fitted n95 masks" when they go outside.

On Wednesday morning, Woodbridge issued a public health advisory urging seniors and anyone who may have respiratory issues to stay indoors. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities, while senior citizens, young children and people with respiratory conditions like asthma should remain indoors or wear a mask if going outdoors, Woodbridge government requested.
