Woodbridge Residents Donated $2K For School Supplies For Local Kids

If you saw the yellow school bus parked outside the Applebee's in August, this is why! Woodbridge residents donated $2,000 for local kids:

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The Woodbridge Applebee's at the mall would like to thank the entire community for donating to their back-to-school supply drive.

The Woodbridge Center Applebee's had a school bus parked outside the restaurant from Aug. 10 - Aug. 16 and the community was asked to donate any school supplies they were able.

The Applebee's raised just close to $2,000 in cash funds, plus supplies. The Woodbridge community generously stuffed the bus with backpacks, spiral notebooks, markers and highlighters, crayons, hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, three-ring binders and more. Plus, Applebee's had a pancake fundraiser where kids ate free on Aug. 13. The restaurant donated 10 percent of all restaurant sales that day to Woodbridge public schools.

All the supplies and a $2,000 check were presented to Woodbridge school superintendent Joe Massimino and Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac.

“Our company has a very long heritage of supporting the communities we serve, and this program holds a special place in our heart, because we understand the important role school supplies make in helping students succeed,” said Tim Doherty, president of Doherty Enterprises and owner of the Applebee’s franchises that did this, in Long Island, New Jersey and Florida. “We take great pride in helping the future leaders of tomorrow!”
