Woodbridge High Scholars Engage in 'Speed Science'

Five WHS students got a taste of the inventing life at AT&T's 'Inventibles' workshop last week.

Five students found out that creating an invention isn't as easy as it looks. They were part of a group of 60 scholars from Bridgewater and Yonkers, NY, who got engaged in science at AT&T's 'Inventibles' program Friday at the Labs in Florham Park.

The AT&T scientists are no slouches in the invention department. Between them, they average two patents a day, hold eight Nobel prize and have 120 years of technology experience, an AT&T spokeswoman said.

WHS students Jeremy Giles, a junior, and Reyden Leon, a senior, were two of the five teens who took part in the workshop.

The 'digital age' students who were born with cell phones and computer technology got a taste of the history of good and bad inventions, and how they came about. Then, divided into small groups, they headed off to 'invention workshops' to imagine what devices and gizmos might be possible five or ten years in the future.

The students had 15 minutes to come up with an idea based on a scenario, before they were sent off to the next workshop - "rather like speed dating," the spokeswoman said.
