Woodbridge Hires First 3 Female Firefighters In Dept.'s History

In the past, Woodbridge has had women volunteer to be firefighters, but these are the first paid firefighters for the Township.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — History was made this week at the Woodbridge Fire Department, as the department hired its first three female professional firefighters.

In the past, Woodbridge has had women volunteer to be firefighters, but these are the first paid, professional firefighters for the Township.

Woodbridge has a hybrid mix of a paid and volunteer fire department.

"It's very cool that the Woodbridge Fire Department made history by hiring its first-ever female firefighters during Women's History Month," said Mayor John McCormac.

In total, eight new career firefighters were sworn in Thursday night. They are, from left to right: Daniel Eagan, Alina Rivera, Eric Seniakevgch, Ryan Hilliard, Kyle Figueredo, Jeffrey Joyce, Andrea Schelmety and Rebecca Haggerty.
