Woodbridge Police Officer Talks To Teens For Black History Month
Last Thursday, March 17 Woodbridge Police Detective Mark Zeno gave a talk to Woodbridge teens about Black History Month.
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Last Thursday, March 17 Woodbridge Police Detective Mark Zeno gave a talk to Woodbridge teens and middle schoolers about Black History Month.
The talk was hosted by the Woodbridge chapter of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh.
Parents who attended the presentation described it as "outstanding." They described it to Patch as a very informative, fun-filled interactive talk with a Q&A at the end.

Detective Zeno gave a presentation about eminent African-Americans in U.S. culture and political life, highlighting the contributions of African-American community leaders, inventors, writers, scientists, celebrities and politicians.
"He emphasized on how important it is to be proud of who we are and our duty to pass on our culture to next generation," said one parent. "It was a rewarding experience for all the families who attended the event."

Det. Zeno talked about his inspiration to join the police department and also advised young kids and teens to listen to their parents, as they have hands-on experiences in life situations. He also talked about the various law enforcement work and community services done by the Woodbridge Police Department, including Junior Police Academy.
"Everyone left the session with the feeling that the police are a friendly, guiding force that ensures our safety and are committed to their duty," said Woodbridge parent Sanil Nambiar. "We salute all law enforcement officers, who we look up to as the top community helpers."
HSS USA (HIndu Service Society or Hindu SwayamSevak Sangh ) is a non-profit, socio-cultural organization that promotes self-discipline, self-confidence and a spirit of selfless service for humanity through its structured values education program for children and adults. HSS operates nearly 220 chapters nationwide, including 16 chapters in New Jersey. The Woodbridge chapter is made up of about 35-40 families (seniors, adults, teens and kids) and they meet every week.
