Woodbridge School Superintendent is Out on December 1

Woodbridge Schools Superintendent John Crowe will be officially leaving his position as superintendent on December 1, but he won't be leaving Woodbridge.

The superintendent, who was a former school principal before he was superintendent, will be returning to that job in the school district.

The Woodbridge Board of Education announced last week at a BOE meeting that they would be opening up a search for a new superintendent for the school district. 

Crowe said at the meeting that he declined to reapply for his superintendent position, although the board invited him to do so.

Crowe will not be leaving the district, said BOE attorney Jonathan Busch. 

The superintendent will "return as an elementary school principal," Busch said.

So far, though, there is no indication what school Crowe will be in charge of.

The ouster of Crowe follows a round of cheating scandals throughout the district at schools from elementary to high school level. In August, three teachers and two principals were suspended in the wake of a state investigation of cheating on standardized tests.

That followed the sudden resignation of the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in early August.

The BOE "has a lot on its plate," Busch said. That includes more than just the superintendent search, since the investigations into cheating in the district isn't over.

The board also intends to put together a 'corrective action plan' to make sure that cheating doesn't happen again.

At this point, "it's not clear what the board will decided to do. They are having extensive discussions with respect to the direction they'll take in the next few months," Busch said.
