WOODBRIDGE, NJ - A Woodbridge Township woman became a victim of a scam when she tried to buy a car off Craigslist in January, police said.
The woman reported the incident to police this past Monday: She said that on Jan. 17 she responded to a Craigslist ad selling a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS for $1,500. The listing was out of Central New Jersey and the seller asked to be contacted via text.
The woman texted the number and the seller, a woman, told her she was selling the car on behalf of her sister who lived in Missouri. The seller said she wanted $1,500 in eBay gift cards sent to her email address, and she would then ship the car to Woodbridge. The woman purchased $1,500 in eBay gift cards from the Walgreen's in Colonia and emailed them to the seller, whom she never heard from again.
