$5,000 Purse, $1,500, Taken From Car At Wyckoff YMCA: Police

Car window was smashed. Two credit cards in the purse were used at Target later that day, police said.

A $5,000 purse, and the $1,500 in it, were stolen out of car at the Wyckoff YMCA Friday, police said.

A Franklin Lakes mother parked the car at the Y and went inside for 15 minutes to pick up her son, said Chief Benjamin Fox.

The woman left her purse on the front seat and when she returned, she found a window smashed and her Givenchy purse wasn’t there, Fox said.

The purse had $1,500 and two credits cards inside; the credit cards were used at a Target store in Riverdale, Fox said.

Patrolman John Rafferty investigated the incident. The detective bureau will conduct a follow-up investigation with the Riverdale Police Department.

Another mother left her car unlocked while she went inside the Apple Tree Nursery School with her child, police said.

A school teacher saw a man go into the car and take something out, police said; the woman’s iPhone was stolen out of the car.

Police have previously reminded residents to lock doors and remove any valuables, including purses, from their vehicles before leaving them.
