After Brief Standoff With Cops, Bergen County Man Arrested: Police
A man was charged with making terroristic threats after a brief standoff with police at his home in Bergen County, police said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Dumont man was taken into custody after a brief standoff with police at his home on Saturday, said Police Chief Brian Joyce.
Michael D. Tolan, 49, was charged with making terroristic threats on Saturday after he allegedly "left nine voicemails threatening to do harm to former and current members of the Dumont Police Department," Joyce said on Monday.
The trouble began on Saturday when Tolan received two motor vehicle summonses, Joyce said in a release. Some time after that, he began making the calls, Joyce said.

"After a brief standoff, Mr. Tolan agreed to surrender and exited his residence without incident where he was placed into custody," Joyce said.
He was taken to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center for clearance, then to Bergen County Jail, Joyce said.

Joyce "commended the responding officers for their handling of the above matter which could easily have had a negative outcome," according to the release.
He also said he appreciated the assistance of the Bergen County Regional S.W.A.T. Team and members of the
Cresskill Police Department.
