'American Idol' Alum From Wyckoff Arrested For Domestic Violence

Mother of singer's baby said he kicked her in the groin, but he insists it was self-defense, report said.

Constantine Maroulis, an ”American Idol” alumnus, was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly kicking the mother of his child in the groin, reports state.

The mother of Maroulis’ 4-year-old daughter called 911 from their Wyckoff home claiming he allegedly kicked her in the groin and threw her to the ground, TMZ.com reported.

Maroulis was taken to jail and quickly bailed out, the report states.

TMZ reported that Maroulis acted in self-defense because his wife allegedly attacked him after he told her he was leaving her.

Maroulis’ representative told the website that there is evidence Maroulis acted in self-defense. Maroulis claims he was injured on his right thigh when the woman threw something at him, TMZ reported.

Maroulis placed sixth on the sixth season of “American Idol.” He starred in the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” as Drew and was nominated for a Tony Award for the role.

Wyckoff police reported that officers responded to a Wyckoff home on a report of a domestic violence assault.

A 34-year-old woman reported that her 39-year-old boyfriend allegedly grabbed her hair, threw her to the ground, and then kicked her during an argument, police said.

The man allegedly fled the scene before authorities arrived and police found him at a nearby home, police said.

The man was charged with assault and released on less than $500 bail, authorities said.

it is not known if the two incidents are the same.

Police Chief Benjamin C. Fox said that Wyckoff police do not release the names of alleged domestic violence victims or assailants.
