Rev. Rod Gorter Joins Christian Health Care Center's Board

Rev. Rod Gorter, MDiv, ThM, pastor of Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, recently joined Christian Health Care Center’s Board of Trustees. He is replacing Rev. Norman Brown, pastor of the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff, who is retiring and leaving the area.

          “The board of trustees is delighted that Rev. Gorter is joining us,” said Sandra DeYoung, RN, EdD, Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) Board of Trustees Chair. “In light of our Christian mission, the role of the minister on the board is crucial, and I know that Rev. Gorter will fill the role exceptionally well.”

          Rev. Gorter has a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology from Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA; a master of arts in religion and a master of divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary in Escondido, CA; and a master of theology degree from Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI.

          Rev. Gorter’s ministry experience includes being pastor of the Transcona Christian Reformed Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; pastor of Worthington Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, MN; serving on the faculty and Dean of Students of the Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine; and Dean of Chapel and Theology instructor at his alma mater of Dordt College.

          Rev. Gorter and his wife, Lydia, have four sons. The youngest is a junior at Eastern Christian High School, one is a sophomore at Covenant College in Georgia, one is a senior at Dordt College, and the oldest is married and lives in British Columbia, Canada.

          The non-profit CHCC has been serving the community since 1911, providing a broad scope of elder-care and mental-health programs.
