Bergen County Man Films His Walk Through A Closing Macy's Store

A Bergen County-based filmmaker created a video to appeal to shoppers' nostalgia for Macy's, before a local store closes.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Videos of urban exploration, abandoned stores, and "dead malls" have become popular on sites like TikTok and YouTube, feeding into a sense of nostalgia and curiosity. Chris Cronin of Bergen County has been creating videos of New Jersey lore for more than 20 years, he told Patch — and this week, he added a look at a store that's about to close.

This month, Macy's announced that it will close several smaller stores, including at least one Macy's in Bergen County. The Ramsey store says on its website that it's "closing soon."

Cronin said this week that he noticed that most of the men's clothes are gone from the Ramsey store. He suggested the smaller Macy's stores don't work well as a concept.

"This is kind of sad, actually," he says in the 8-minute video.

"Store Closing: A Final Store Tour of Macy's at Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey, New Jersey" allows a viewer to follow Cronin through the small-format store.

Cronin told Patch on Thursday, "I think people have fond memories of Macy's growing up and they like to look back to a simpler time before the internet...[and] how they are doing as an organization."

Last year, Cronin posted A Final Store Tour of Forever 21 at Westfield Garden State Plaza Paramus NJ.
