Christian Health Care Center Celebrates Orange Day

Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) in Wyckoff recently recognized its Dutch heritage by joining the people of the Netherlands in celebrating their Queen’s birthday on Orange Day, or Queen’s Day (Konigindag) Tuesday, April 30. Staff was encouraged to wear orange, de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room held a special sale, including 20-percent discount on Delft china, and Food and Nutrition Services served a special orange menu. Employees enjoyed carrot ginger soup, orange barbecue beef brisket, fresh baked sweet potato, and glaze baby carrots topped with orange zest, and orange creamsicles for dessert.

On this national holiday in Holland, the royal family joins the Queen and travels through the country in a sign of unity and solidarity, a custom that began after World War II. However, this year’s celebration will be especially significant since the Queen is abdicating her throne to her son, Prince Willem, on the same day. Next year the Dutch will celebrate their first “King’s Day.” On Orange Day in the Netherlands, people dress in all things orange, deck their towns in beautiful spring flowers and join in parades, dancing, song, and other festivities.

Christian Health Care Center provides a broad continuum of high-quality, compassionate care, offering superior mental-health, elder-care, residential living, and rehabilitation services. As a non-profit organization, we deliver care to our community based upon the Christian principles on which we were founded more than a century ago.
