Christian Health Care Center Offered Free CPR Anytime Course to the Community

Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) in Wyckoff recently offered a free American Heart Association CPR Anytime. Twenty-nine participants from the community, of all ages, gathered to learn the basics of CPR for adults, children, and infants and
took home a practice mannequin, DVD, and certificate of completion.

CHCC was able to offer this program to the community at no charge thanks to a
generous grant received by the CHCC Foundation from the George A. Ohl Jr.
Foundation. This American Heart Association course, entitled “Family & Friends CPR Anytime,” teaches the core skills of CPR but it is not a certifying or credentialing course. It helps participants to feel confident in an emergency situation where CPR is needed, and as a collective community benefit, the training increases awareness of life-saving techniques for adults, children, and infants. The course was run by Elaine Peneno, RN, MPH, CHCC’s Long-term Care Clinical Educator; Marita Drivanos, RN, BA; and Robert Ehlers, Washington Township Emergency Medical Technician, all of whom are certified CPR instructors.

Feedback from the participants was very positive. One of the participants said,
“My motiviation is to be able to help my family, friends, patients, and
Sunday-school children.” Everyone expressed the desire to know how to help
someone in need.
