Macs are not immune to viruses

People have been told over the years that Macs can't get viruses.  While many people, including me, believe that the core operating system (OS) of a Mac is more secure than that of Windows, unfortunately, Macs are not immune to viruses.

As I've discussed in a past post, the primary motivation for creating a virus is money.  In the past, since Microsoft has dominated the personal computer market, the virus makers have focused their efforts on Microsoft's 90%+ market share.

In October 2012, when Apple released their third quarter results, they announced that they now have over 13% of the computer market (MacRumors.comAppleInsider.com).  As Apple's market share climbs, we'll see more and more viruses targeting their devices.
