Heroin Overdoses Rise In Bergen County; See Where They're Happening [MAP]
BREAKING: The number of reported heroin and opioid deaths remained the same year over year, but the number of overdoses increased.

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. — There was nearly a 7 percent increase in the number of heroin and opioid overdoses reported in Bergen County last year, compared to 2015.
A municipal-level breakdown of where every heroin death and overdose, along with how many lives were saved, was outlined in a report the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office released Thursday.
Of the 308 reported overdoses, 87 people died, Narcan was used in 207 overdoses, resulting in 180 lives saved. There were 288 reported overdoses in 2015.

Elmwood Park had the most number of reported overdoses with 23. Cliffside Park was next with 16, followed by Lyndhurst and Lodi were next with 14 and 13, respectively. Fort Lee had the fifth most with 13.
Garfield and Fairview had 12 and 11, respectively. Wallington, Dumont and Mahwah all had 10 overdoses.

“The goal of this report, like our social media campaign, #StopTheODs, is to
destigmatize the heroin and opioid epidemic by showing that it affects every pocket of
the County," Grewal said in a news release. “By doing so, we hope to encourage parents,
children, educators and others to use this information to do their part to help prevent the
next overdose."
