Carbs are BAD!

No, actually they are not.  Actually, they are an extremely important part of your everyday diet.  Unfortunately a few people in this world have made a living saying how bad carbohydrates are for you.  In simple terms, have you ever seen someone gain weight from eating plain oatmeal?  What about carrots?  Or even more of a “danger” that horrible thing that they call corn.

On a serious note, there are obviously poor choices that are made, and coincidentally they usually involve carbs.  Who doesn’t like the taste of a perfectly cooked, well salted french fry?  How easy is it to resist the amazing taste of pasta with a home style cooked sauce (or gravy for some of you).  Personally carbs are one of my favorite “food groups”, then come fats, and lastly proteins.

Here are the important facts; carbohydrates are your easiest form of energy, that being said, your body needs them to function properly.  Carbs help your brain think, your body build muscle, and you perform normal, simple, daily tasks.

There are obviously better choices than others.  Some good options are beans (I know, I know, they make you gassy), oatmeal (No not the sugary really yummy tasting one), fruit (yes, the colorful stuff that grows on a tree, not from a box), and I’m sure you get my point.

I’m not saying that you should eat just carbs by any stretch of the imagination, but what I am saying is that they are an important part of your diet.  The funny thing is that for the largest goal we see in our country, weight loss, your diet should likely contain around 50% carbs.  You need to make healthy choices, and create good options to have in front of you.  When we are hungry we want a quick fix, carbs (and sometimes fats) tend to be our go to options because they are usually easy to eat right now.

If you have further questions feel free to contact me and I’d be more than happy to sit and discuss some different options regarding your nutrition with you.  No, I can and will not make you a diet plan, nor will I tell you what to eat specifically, but my goal is always to help you learn to have a better, well-balanced diet.
