Cop's Family Seeking Donations For Memorial Tree At Wyckoff Church

The family of the late Glen Rock Police officer Michael O’Shea is accepting donations to plant a tree in his memory.

O’Shea, 44, died in January 2013 after a courageous fight against leukemia.

A graduate of William Paterson University, O’Shea began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1996. He returned to serve his former Glen Rock community in 2003, according to Cliffviewpilot.com.

O’Shea wife and kids created a GoFundMe page to help raise money to plant a tree in his memory at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff.

“Can we get a tree for Daddy?” O’Shea’s children Jack, Carly, and Colin asked.

“I couldn’t say no,” Tina O’Shea said. “Then when I saw the prices of the trees I realized I could only afford the cheapest one, a Norway Spruce, which was fine by me until I saw a picture of that tree.”

O’Shea said the tree is a standard, “run of the mill type of evergreen. Definitely not one to adequately represent Mike and who he was.”

The family would like to purchase a Kousa Dogwood, a “fully grown magnificent tree with beautiful flowers adorning the branches,” Tina O’Shea said in the post.

The family needs $6,500 to purchase the tree and a bench to put under it.

As of Tuesday afternoon, $6,050 had been donated.
