Dog Trick of the Day!

My dad co-wrote the very first book on Dog Tricks. It was called, Dog Tricks: Teaching Your Dog to Be Useful, Fun and Entertaining.  His co-author is a gifted trainer and writer, Carol Benjamin.

Today's trick will be about making your dog useful. It is also a trick that is featured in my newest book called, The Best Dog Tricks on the Planet.  Sort the laundry.

It is important to teach your dog the retrieve first. You want him to learn, "Take it". Once he is taking objects into his mouth, you will then, gently show him, where to put it, give it a command, "Darks" or "Lights".  You can then tell him,'Darks, drop it".  Once you practice this three to four times, he will start to understand what you want.  Make certain you are giving him lots and lots of love and praise with each succession.

Before you know it, your dog will be getting a bigger allowance than your children because he will be more eager to help with the laundry than your ten year old.
