Election Guide: Legislative District 40 Assembly Race

Democrats Paul Vagianos and Christine Ordway will try and unseat two longstanding state assemblymen in the 40th Legislative District race Tuesday.

The central message of the Democrats’ campaign is ”a moment of truth.”

“We can no longer avoid making the tough choices fixing our financial crisis requires if we are to get back on track, restore our quality of life, and make New Jersey competitive again,” the challengers’ campaign website states.

Scott Rumana, a former Wayne mayor, was first elected to the state Assembly in 2008. He has been the Republican whip since 2012, was the deputy conference leader and policy co-chairman in 2010 and 2011, and was the assistant Republican leader in 2008 and 2009. 2010-11. He serves on the Asembly’s Environment and Solid Waste, Transportation and Independent Authorities, and Legislative Services Commission committees.

David Russo was first elected to the Assembly in 1990. He serves on the Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee.
