Historical N.Y. City Film Screening

The 1939 World’s Fair, rendered in an hour-long historical docudrama by Westinghouse Corporation, will be screened at Temple Emanuel on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 15, at 2:00 o’clock.  Entitled “The Middleton Family Goes to the New York World’s Fair,” the film portrays the emerging technology and social issues of the pre-World War II era as witnessed by an American family.  Four short films will follow portraying Coney Island and produced respectively in 1952, 1940, 1917, and 1903.  The 1917 film, entitled “Rube and Mandy Go to Coney Island,” stars Buster Keaton and Fatty Arbuckle and takes place at the original Luna Park Amusement Park before the disastrous fire and rebuilding.  The 1903 film takes place at the original Steeplechase Park, which was destroyed in a fire in 1907.  Both are silent.

The program is free and open to the public.  Sandwiches and soft beverages will be provided.
