education  and began her teaching.  While working she earned a M.A. in art education from

Columbia University,T.C.  Upon completion of her academic studies her professional life was spent

as art teacher and Supervisor of Art for the Passaic School system for 35 years.

 .

Many people influenced and encouraged her, beginning with Mary Lyle, her high school art

teacher, then at Newark State, Will Barnet, painter and printmaker, Seymour Lipton, sculptor and

professors Sibyl Browne and Dr. Lillian Calcia. All impressed upon her the importance of art in our

lives. These influences help to develop her visual interpretation of what she saw. In her own work

and that of her students she impressed the importance of drawing.

Margaret took early retirement to pursue her own work in watercolor, drawing and other media.

She received numerous awards from both juried and outdoor shows in the area and her work

hangs in many private collections locally and nationally.

.

Margaret said “ Nature offers endless opportunities for recording and interpreting what I see

surrounding me. The effect of light on the changing seasons is fascinating. Color plays an

important part for me, as does pattern and design. I like to paint and draw on location and at times

use my camera or memory as the means of approach to a composition. Much of what I do is an

expression of what I know, a place, a glimpse, a moment or a studied object. There are times I want

the color, the brush and the paint to lead me; other times I want to lead them. I want the viewer to

participate with me.”

The Gallery hours are Tuesday thru Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm. On Saturday, March 24 a formal

reception and sale will be held from 2:00 to 6:00pm. A percentage (25%) from all sales will benefit  the   missions of PCFL.
