D'Oh, A Deer: Bergen County Firefighters Rescue Doe Who 'Refused Medical Attention'

D'oh! A deer. First responders saved the life of an animal in Bergen County, who stubbornly "refused medical attention."

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — D'oh! A deer! A frozen deer.

Amid the icy conditions this month, a deer became trapped in a Franklin Lakes resident's frozen pond on Feb. 3. Luckily, firefighters from two departments helped.

At 5:30 that evening — said the Franklin Lakes Fire Department in a social media post — they were dispatched. They asked for mutual aid from Oakland's Fire Department and a Basic Life Support unit from the Franklin Lakes ambulance corps.

Both departments carefully freed the frozen doe — who fled.

"Members safely removed the deer from the water and she fled the scene and refused medical attention," wrote a wag in the Franklin Lakes Fire Department.

"The deer took off running unharmed," wrote the Oakland Fire Department.

In other words, the doe went far — a long, long way to run.
