Girl Scouts To Move Ahead With Monarch Butterfly Project

Town Committee approves Troop 94686 installing a "weigh station" for the insects to enjoy during their migration to Mexico.

The Township Committee recently approved a Girl Scout troop’s plan to create a monarch butterfly garden at Russell Farms Community Park.

The garden, which will take two years to create, is meant to assist monarch butterflies as they annually migrate to and from Mexico.

The Scouts form Troop 94686 will plant the seeds of milkweed and other nectar-producing plants the butterflies drink from, NorthJersey.com reported.

The Girl Scouts would also create signs using money from a state grant through the Wyckoff Green Team to educate people at the garden.

Mayor Kevin Rooney applauded the troop’s efforts.
