Guide: Summer Fair Fun In Bergen County

What you need to know about Bergen County's best festivals

Now that summers in full swing its fair season which means lots of fun filled entertainment and all you can eat junk food. Here's the lowdown on all of Bergen County’s Fairs and events this summer season!

Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Lions Club Carnival

When/Where: July 13 to 17, 6 to 10 p.m. , Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417 (Parking on the field)

Why Go: It's not every day you get carnival rides and games for the family so close to the Market Basket and all the shops in Urban Farms! 

Pricing: Entrance is free, rides, games and food extra.

State Fair at the Meadowlands Fair Grounds

When and Where:  The New Meadowlands Fairgrounds, next to the New Meadowlands Stadium Stadium Stadium Road, East Rutherford. The fair runs from June 24 to July 10.

Why/Go: This fair is one of the Garden State’s biggest summer attractions as it features hundreds of rides, events, and entertainment including an alligator show, petting zoo, and circus entertainment.

Pricing: Monday through Thursday: $7 for age 13 & up, children 12 and under & Senior Citizens $5; Friday through Sunday: $9 for age 13 & up; children 12 and under & Senior Citizens $6; Parking is $4 Thursday through Sunday; Children under 34" are admitted free daily.

Glen Rock’s 4 Day Family Fair

Who: The Township of Glenn Rock will be holding its annual 4 Day Family Fair.

When/Where: Wilde Memorial Park, Maple Avenue, Glen Rock  on June 23, 2011 to Sunday June 26.

Why: Enjoy rides, games, and food. A pizza eating contest will also be held on Sunday June 26. Pizza dough comes from Johns Boy Pizza.

Westwood Summer Festival

Where/When: Downtown Westwood, along Westwood Avenue, Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: The Westwood Chamber of Commerce is presenting the annual summer festival, which turns Westwood Avenue into a pedestrian shopping area by closing the street. Patrons will encounter shopping deals, food, health experts, inflatables for children and more.

Hackensack Car Show

Who: Held at Farleigh Dickinson University, guests can come and enjoy gazing at vintage cars and enjoy food and other entertainment  

Where/When: This event will be held at Farleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack on June 26 2011, Rain Date is July 10.

Why: A must for any car lover, this event celebrates over 100 years of cars with great food and music.

Pricing: Entry and parking for this event is free to the public.

Taste of Rutherford Festival

Who: This annual festival given by The Rutherford Downtown Partnership allows visitors to sample and taste some great cuisine from some of Rutherford’s best restaurants.

Where/When?: The festival will be held on Park Avenue, in Rutherford, Thursday, June, 30, 2011.

Why: A must for all food enthusiasts, this festival samples food from some of the town’s best restaurants. Besides the great food, guests will also be treated to musical entertainment as well as a classic car show. Wine Sampling will also be available at Williams Plaza.

Pricing: Tickets can be purchased at the Rutherford Public Library as well as the Rutherford Downtown Department office. Guests can purchase a ticket $10 which guarantees 10 samples of food or $5 for five samples. Guests can expect to pay $10 for the wine tasting tent.

Leonia Annual Sports Booster Carnival

Who: The township of Leonia is holding their Second Annual Sports Booster Carnival.

Where/When: Thursday, June, 30, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.at Fort Lee Road in Leonia N.J.

Why? Enjoy rides, foods, and great fun and fireworks!

 Teaneck Recreation Department’s July 4th Community Celebration

Who: The Teaneck Recreational Department is celebrating its twentieth year of Fourth of July fun.

Where/When: Come to Votee Park Band Shell Area on Monday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why? This event is celebrating its tewntieth anniversary this year including face painters, Jurassic Survivor Inflatable entertainment, as well as good food.

Tenafly Street Fair

Who: Tenafly Township is throwing its annual street fair.

Where/When: This event will be held on Saturday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Washington Street and Railroad Avenue in Tenafly New Jersey.

Why: Come enjoy entertainment from merchandise and food vendors as well as ‘crafts corner’ with homemade crafts

Pricing: Admission is free.

New York Renaissance Faire

Who: Take a step back in time and visit the New York Renaissance Faire.

Where: This festival runs from August 6 through September 25, 2011. Set in Sterling Forest in Tuxedo Park, New York, daily hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why: Enjoy sixteenth century themed games, arts, crafts, music, food, and dance.

Bergen County4-H Master Gardener’s Fair

Where: When: Van Saun Park in Paramus, NJ on August 14 (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) and August 15 (10 a.m. -4 p.m.).

Why Go?: This event includes live performances, displays, as well as educational activities for children including contests and games. Home owning topics will be discussed as well including lawn care, soil conservation, recycling, and composting.

Pricing: Admission and Parking are both free

Bergen County Historical Society Event

Who: The Bergen County Historical Society is holding ‘Winu Gischuch’ the Ripe Corn Moon Festival

When/Where: This one of a kind festival will be held at Historic New Bridge Landing from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 27.

Why: Come celebrate the ancient Algonquian festival which honors Native American heritage as well as the Corn Moon. Historian and author Kevin Wright will speak on his book 1609: A Country That Was Never Lost. Guests are also allowed to visit the gift shop as well as The Steuben House’s rare artifacts Refreshments will be served in the Campbell-Christie house.

2011 Saint Joseph Feast

Who: Saint Joseph’s church will be holding its annual Saint Joseph Feast this Labor Day.

When/Where: This feast will be held on Labor Day Weekend (September 2, 3, 4, and 5) at 40 Spring Street, Church Grounds, and rear of Kmart in Lodi.  Friday hours are 6 to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday hours are from 2 to 10:30 p.m.

Why: Come enjoy traditional Italian fare like sausage and peppers, zeppoles, gelato, pizza, and macaroni and meatballs. This event also includes evening entertainment such as a traditional accordion player and DJ express entertainment. Rides and games of chance will also be featured as well.

Big Swap Bonanza

Who: JC Promotions Company is holding Big Swap Bonanza which is a five town giant garage and tag sale event.

When/Where: This event will be held on Saturday October 29 and Sunday October 30, 2011 at the New Jersey Transit station parking lot at 540 New York Avenue. Event hours are 9 to 4 p.m.

Why: This event is a fundraiser benefitting local organizations through events like flea markets, craft shows, and street fairs. Businesses can also make a donation on event day.
