House Candidate Gottheimer From Wyckoff 'Ready To Stand Up For New Jersey Values,' Report Says
Dozens of Bergen County Democratic leaders endorsed the fiscally conservative, socially progressive Democrat from Wyckoff.

WYCKOFF, NJ – Forty-six Democratic Bergen County leaders threw their support behind Josh Gottheimer, their party’s candidate to represent New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District.
Gottheimer, a 40-year-old Wyckoff native, former Microsoft executive, and speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, received the endorsement because of the need for the district to have a representative who is sensitive to the needs of Bergen County residents and will make it a priority to fight for resources necessary for local projects. Gottheimer is trying to unseat Rep. Scott Garrett, a seven-term incumbenet from Sussex County.
“Our families need a champion who will go to Washington and stand up for New Jersey values, whether its working to lower our taxes, investing in our children’s education, or ensuring that woman received equal pa for an equal day’s work,” Gottheimer said.

Most of the district’s voters live in Bergen County. Gottheimer received the Passaic County Democratic Committee’s endorsement earlier this month.
The Republican-leaning district has the 14th highest median income of any congressional district in the United States, The Record reported. He has spoken out about wages and the need to be unified.

“Everybody knows there are problems when it comes to the wage page and the fact that not enough people benefitted from growth,” Gottheimer said in The Record recently. “But where we have to be careful as a country, I believe, is if we start getting to the habit of pitting people against each other.”
Gottheimer has said that instituting tax reform would include eliminating loopholes, but that targeting individual loopholes is dangerous and won’t do anything to change the system.
Gottheimer previously said he wants to create more jobs and invest in infrastructure and STEM education in the district.
