Code Purple Rocks the USS Intrepid

Fashion show benefits malaria prevention

Last Thursday, Pam Abma, Jeff Boucher and some of the designers behind a project that created a functional, and potentially life-saving piece of clothing closed out New York City's Fashion Week with a blockbuster party on the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum

The Code Purple event — part fundraiser, part fashion show— benefitted production and distribution of the "life-changing mosquito repellent garment."

"Every 45 seconds some one dies from Malaria," Boucher said Thursday night at the event.

Models, designers, musicians and guests made their rounds at the Code Purple show Thursday evening to help raise awareness for the home-bred initiative.

"Going green is great but that's like six years ago," said Robin Crespo, ING Activewear's CEO and founder. "Going purple is now."
