Man Pinned Under Car At Garden State Plaza Monday Has Died: Police

Anthony Marchese, 59, was pinned under a car on the mall's lower level parking garage, police said.

The Garfield man who was pinned under a car at the Garden State Plaza Monday has died, police said.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Marchese passed away this evening,” police said in a Facebook post Monday night. “Our condolences go out to his family.”

Anthony Marchese, 59, was pinned under a car in the mall’s parking garage around 9 a.m. Monday; Anna Bello, 74 of Haledon, was turning a 2011 Subaru Impreza into a parking aisle when the car hit Marchese, police previously said.

Officer Sean Nutland used the car’s jack to get the vehicle off of Marchese and Officer Michael Mordaga removed him from under the car, authorities said.

Marchese was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition.

An investigation was continuing.
