'Modern Family' Star Aids NJ Hiker After Injury At Arches

A trip to Arches National Park didn't go quite as expected for Bergen County's Minnie John, but actress Julie Bowen was there to help.

GRAND COUNTY, UT — When Minnie John dreamt up her "bucket list" trip to Arches National Park, it's unlikely she imagined she'd leave with a bandaged nose. But for her troubles, she came away with a remarkable celebrity encounter.

John took to Facebook recently to recap her "wild and crazy adventure" to the Utah national park, something she said was "definitely on my bucket list for a very long time."

The first thing Minnie John wants you to know is that she isn't sure what exactly made her want to hike up the trail, and that yes, she does understand the reasons why you'd think she wouldn't.

"It was such a treacherous climb much more than anything we imagined but sheer determination or absurdity made me want to climb as a woman in my late 50s and one who has an artificial knee, who has never walked much since my surgery, I felt the need to climb," she wrote.

Still, John made it toward the top of the trail before she hit her limit, she said. When she began to feel light-headed, she took a seat on a rock and waved her family on, despite their insistence to stay with her.

"I would not forgive myself if we had to go back down without seeing this site after coming so far," she said.

But things took a turn for the worst quickly.

"All I remember is sitting there with my head in my hands secure on the rock. Next thing I hear someone with a familiar voice kept asking me questions."

As John describes it, she "fell forward splat on [her] face," hitting her head on a flat rock and breaking her glasses in the process.

That's when that familiar voice came to her aid.

Clearly a fan of the sitcom "Modern Family", John recognized the voice immediately, but couldn't place it right initially.

Eventually, a doctor named Annie who was on the trail informed her that the voice was her sister, Julie Bowen, from the sitcom "Modern Family."

John came away from the accident knowing how to better plan for a hike next time, and with a broken nose. But things weren't all bad, she said.

"Love you Julie and Annie and now I have become famous for one minute for my antics," she wrote.

"Daredevil or dumb as can be, I still consider this trek up the mountain as one of my proudest achievements in my life."
