Mother Of Man Accused Of Stabbing Bergen Woman: 'That Shouldn't Have Ever Gone That Far': Report

Arthur Lomando Sr. said his son was scheduled to fly out to visit him in Las Vegas Saturday, but that something made him snap.

The mother of the man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death before jumping in front of a subway train in Harlem said the relationship between her son and Suzanne Bardzell ”shouldn’t have ever gone that far,” a report by Newsday states.

Arthur Lomando’s mother, Jeannette, said friday that her son had been dealing with depression “for some time,” and had seen therapists and psychologists for help dealing with it, Newsday reported.

Lomando is accused of fatally stabbing Bardzell to death outside her Midland Park home Thursday, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

Bardzell took out a restraining order against Lomando Oct. 8, which he allegedly violated four times the next day, Midland Park Police Chief Michael Powderley said in an NJ.com report. The restraining order was the result of several domestic violence incidents, Molinelli said in the report.

A police patrol was assigned to watch the residence, the report stated.

Police searched for Lomando Oct. 10 after he was reported missing, NJ.com reported. He turned himself in and was released after posting $10,000 bond, Newsday reported.

Molinelli said Bardzell, a special education teacher in Teaneck and mother of two teenage boys, returned home in her SUV at 3:26 p.m. when Lomando smashed the driver’s-side window and attacked her with a very large, machete-type of knife, striking her several times, The Record reported.

Lomando was a 10-year veteran of the NYPD before he was terminated in 2004 after several misconduct issues and mental health issues were documented, Newsday’s report states. He threw himself into a train in Harlem, Molinelli posted on Twitter Thursday.

Lomando had both legs amputated as a result of the failed suicide attempt, ABC News and NJ.com reported.
