Ordinance Would Prohibit Water From Being Pumped Onto Franklin Lakes Streets
Residents who deal with flooding objected to the legislation at a meeting recently.

A few Franklin Lakes residents do not agree with an ordinance designed to restrict the diversion of water onto borough streets.
The Borough Council will further review a proposed ordinance that was discussed at a meeting recently.
The ordinance would prohibit residents from diverting “rain or surface water” onto roads and streets and into the sewer system.

Norman Makoujy of Ginger Lane said his sump pump puts water from his basement into his yard, but when his house begins to flood, he directs the water onto the street, NorthJersey.com reported.
“When it is raining hard, I pump 1,200 gallons per hour,” the website reported. “What am I supposed to do? My seepage pit fills up in 10 minutes and I allow it to seep into the ground.”

Peter Nicolle of Forest Street suggested the ordinance be rewritten, the website reported.
The ordinance was tabled to a later meeting.
