The wreath had been removed from its stand and smashed over the memorial. The memorial has the names of the Wyckoff military veterans who were killed in action in wars etched on it; no other wreaths placed at the memorial had been damaged, police said.

“On Memorial Day, a day in which our entire nation pays respects to our military personnel for their service and sacrifice, for someone to commit such a disgraceful and despicable act saddens me greatly,” Chief Benjamin Fox said. “This is a feeling I’m confidence is shared by many in our community.”
