Reader Comments Get Hot Over Toddler Saved From Car

People blast the mother who left the child in the vehicle. Some want her incarcerated.

Patch and Facebook users have weighed in heavily since a story broke yesterday featuring the rescue of a child from a hot car in Hackensack.

A store employee noticed the child and a Bergen County Sheriff’s officer smashed through a window at a Costco parking lot to rescue the crying child, according to a video taken from the scene.

The child was “soaking wet” with sweat once pulled out of the vehicle. The mother was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Robert Lindabury:

For all those talking about the temperature in the van only being 80 or how you leave your apt at 78 and it feels cold to you or how 30 or 40 years ago you sat in 90 degree humid temps and other nonsense.

YOU DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILD IN THE CAR WHILE YOU GO SHOPPING!

It’s very simple. You just don’t do it. Period.

If you think it’s ok to do that under ANY circumstance, you should not be a parent.

The Most Interesting Man:

Can’t believe this still goes on when you could leave the car running with the air on, lock the doors and put a note on the window telling passer by’s that you’re in the store while you child is listening to The Who with your cell phone number and if there is a problem to call you.

Kimberley Schmidt:

Do these people live in a cave!? never having heard of the dangers!

Fairisfair:

Please stop making excuses on leaving children in the car, there is no excuse. The best course of action is. If you’re too lazy to take care of them, don’t have them.

Jeanne Brady Schreib N Tableman:

It takes less than 15 minutes for that car to become an oven on a day like today. Children can not handle heat as easily as an adult. Heat stroke, brain damage and death. I would love for you to sit in a hot car with the windows rolled up for a bit and see how well you handle it.

Why is this still happening? How many children have to die? I commend the person who called the police and the police for taking action to save the child. There is no excuse...

Erin Prendergast Marzellashe brought ONE child in the store, but left the other??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??

Majlinda H She sure did. To not disturb her nap... So she can die of a heat stroke. Moronnnnnnnnn

Kimmi Ann What the heck is WRONG with people?!? Aside from the obvious risk of heat stroke, was she not concerned about kidnapping,or even just that her child would wake up, not knowing where she was, or where her a mommy was? Good Lord!
